I kinda lied to everyone yesterday, actually I have been lying for a while now and it’s been a few lies. I could say I didn’t tell the whole truth. That sounds nicer. I have been sneaking lunch meat to my oldest basset’s Venus Fly Trap plant every few weeks or so, just to see what would happen. I have never been able to keep one alive, so I thought I might try something different. That was the first lie, since I didn’t tell anyone I was doing that just in case it killed the plant. The plant was doing great, so I kept doing it without incident. Until yesterday. I was caught feeding the plant by my pup Jethro. I thought he could keep a secret since he was a good loyal dog, and because also doesn’t speak English. I was wrong. Not about the English part, but about the trying to rat me out and have everyone know I was feeding the plant lunch meat. After I finished feeding the plant and went back in the house, he tore that plant to bits! I bet he was jealous. The whole family was shocked and couldn’t understand why he would do such a thing. I knew. I knew all to well. I will keep your secret pup. I won’t tell them you were jealous of a plant. But you owe me.

Novella #1, May of 1903. In the dank attic room of a squalid inn on the north coast of France, a young and penniless American woman, only recently recovered from a difficult birth, yearns for home. May God help those who stand in her way…
Though her circumstances are such that they might elicit pity, Mrs. Biddle neither needs nor wants our sympathy. Nor, after even the briefest acquaintance, are you likely to afford her any. Her yearning for home derives not from a love of friends or family, but rather a compulsion to settle a score. Haughty, arrogant, deceitful, cunning, faithless — these are the words best able to describe her. One moment she’s posing as the ruler of an underwater duchy in aid of a con game, the next she’s betraying a confederate. With never the slightest feeling of remorse.
