The Walgreen’s downtown has a colony of chickens and roosters that have been living there for years and years. Mostly they stick to the little drugstore parking lot and the gas station across the street. It is not that often that I see one wonder too much further. Until yesterday. Coming home from dinner with my youngest baby basset, about three blocks from the drug store I see him. A lone rooster looking like he is going to bolt across the busy four lane road. I slowed down because I really wanted to give him a chance. Much to my delight, the other drivers did as well. So there we waited while the young rooster took his first step onto the road. Then back again onto the sidewalk. The cars continued to wait. Then he bolted halfway across the road, but just as quickly ran back. With confidence he attempted once more to cross the road, but something in his mind told him no, and he quickly retreated back to the safety of his original side of the road. It was clear he was torn. He really didn’t have any clue why he wanted to cross the road. He never made it. He went back home.

Can one summer together make up for eight years of separation?
Commander Brett Murphy left his family’s construction firm in Oklahoma City for a life of hard work at Three Rivers Ranch. Alone, without a wife and kids, Brett needs the camaraderie he enjoyed while serving overseas with his Army buddies, Squire Ackerman and Peter Marshall.
What Brett doesn’t need is the reappearance of his ex-wife. Fiery Kate Donnely has come to Three Rivers to confess to Brett that they’re still married, and oh, he has a seven-year-old son she never told him about. At least not in letters she mailed.
Eight years ago, Kate left Oklahoma City only weeks after Brett’s first deployment, shamed because of her bad choices and the unborn child of a man she’d already asked for a divorce. She needs him to sign the papers now or she can’t have access to her hefty inheritance. But Brett absolutely does not want Kate to take his son away from him again.
They strike a deal: She’ll stay at Three Rivers for the summer so Brett can have the opportunity to get to know his son. How far will they have to go and how much will they have to forgive in order to become a family?

It began as their dream home…
but soon became their worst nightmare…
Len and Olivia Bowden had been seeking the ideal home in which to raise their daughter, Kennedy. The classic Victorian in a historic Atlanta neighborhood had everything they were looking for: lots of room in which to grow, friendly neighbors, and best of all, a bargain price, the result of a bank foreclosure. Hardly able to believe their good fortune, they move in and begin making plans for a promising future.
Then the stranger arrives at their front door. An elderly man, strong and imposing in spite of his age, he claims that a con artist deceived him in a mortgage deal, leading to the foreclosure on the house into which they’ve moved. He asserts that the property still rightfully belongs to him–and he demands that they move out within three days. Or else.
When they refuse to give in to his demands, they are confident the incident will blow over, and they take reassurance in their legal rights to the home. But the disturbing confrontation with the old man is only the beginning…
Doors open and shut on their own. Footsteps creak across the old floors. And young Kennedy is convinced that she sees monsters lurking in the shadows…
As the incidents worsen, they realize that their very lives depend upon finding out what’s really going on. But once they finally discover the shocking truth about the old house and its mysterious former resident, it may already be too late.
A gripping thriller that deftly explores the supernatural invading the lives of an ordinary family, IN THE DARK is Brandon Massey at his riveting best.

J.M. Hofer delivers page-turning tales of lust, power and sorcery in her award-winning first novel, Islands in the Mist, and its sequels, Across the Sea and Rise of the Pendragon. Set in post-Roman Britain and steeped in Welsh legend, her stories bring to life the times just before the arrival of King Arthur.
In Islands in the Mist, we meet the great warrior, Bran, who is called home from the battlefield to his mother’s deathbed. He honors her final wish by vowing to solve the mystery of what fatally attacked her and the clan’s chieftain in the night. Though many have dismissed it as a wolf attack, she insists it was not, and encourages him to seek the counsel of Talhaiarn, druid advisor to their clan.
On his journey, Bran encounters the fiery Lucia, widow to a Roman centurion, and her strangely-gifted stable boy, Gwion–an enigmatic child graced with understanding beyond his years. Lucia possesses “the Sight,” an ability that has plagued her from the time she was a small girl, tormenting her with disturbing visions of events that invariably come to pass. Fate leads her to discover many of her maternal ancestors were masterful women gifted with similar psychic abilities and that some of them have been watching her from the shadows for years.
Upon returning to his village, Bran finds himself at odds with the hot-tempered Aelhaearn, who is determined to become their clan’s next chieftain. To Aelhaearn’s disappointment, Bran’s sister, Seren, now priestess in her mother’s place, convinces the clan to choose Bran for the honor instead. In the aftermath of their conflict, Bran discovers something shocking about his rival that causes him to rue his sister’s decision.
They must all work together, however, to defeat the creator of their nocturnal enemies — a creator who, one by one, is patiently pulling all who oppose her deep into the seductive maelstrom of her power.
