I NEVER go to the mall. Okay, that’s a lie. I do go to the mall once a year to get the baby bassets picture taken with Santa, but other than that I never go. Yesterday though, I did to see if I could find nice sweatshirts for the baby bassets to wear on their first day of school. For the past week my Facebook news feed has been filed with my friend’s kids dressed up for their first day of school holding homemade signs that announce their first day in whatever grade they are in glitter and sparkles, and dressed in their Sunday best. I did not make a sign. Heck, I was barely able to make their lunch this morning. Yesterday I panicked though and got it stuck in my head that my boys needed new sweatshirts even though it’s in the 70’s and they wouldn’t wear them. Every store I went into the decent ones were over $100. Ummm..no. After five stores I realized this wasn’t going to be a successful trip. I am quite thankful my boys don’t care about style yet, but I can see I will need to saving up now for when they do.

Agent Jamie Dallas loves undercover assignments that get her out of the Phoenix Bureau. But when a woman and her baby disappear from an isolated community of preppers in Northern California, she knows the risk of infiltrating the armed group is dangerously high.

Once inside the compound, she discovers that the brothers who founded Destiny are scheming something far more devious than kidnapping or murder. Meanwhile, her local FBI contact is pulled from her team and assigned to investigate the murder of a woman found at the bottom of a motel pool.

Soon Dallas finds herself in deeper trouble than she’s ever encountered — with no way to reach her contacts. Can she break free of the bunker and stop their bizarre end-of-world plans? Will Agent McCullen identify the killer in time to help?

The Trigger is a gripping story that highlights our greatest fear — how a megalomaniac and a hacker-for-hire can threaten civilization as we know it.

Mr. Pizza

Most people make at least one really harebrained decision in their life. Tony Piza is no exception.

It’s 1973, and Tony decides he needs a carefree year off after college — with pay. So, to the shock of his tight-knit family and closest friends, he postpones law school and smooth-talks his way into a job teaching sixth grade at a Catholic school in Staten Island, N. Y. A paid vacation if ever there was one! Yeah, right.

Say hi to the Moby Dick of miscalculations. His pathetic effort is making him look bad, especially compared to the other sixth-grade instructor, Sister Theresa, an energetic young nun with a disposition that could have turned Attila the Hun into a daisy-picking philanthropist. It’s also crimping his efforts to enchant Colleen O’Brien, a stunning, straight-talking teacher who sees right through him. And, even worse, he’s starting to feel guilty about shortchanging his students, especially after learning about the issues some of them are dealing with.

So he shifts gears, engaging the kids with his irreverent humor and theatrical flair. But sometimes you pay a price for pushing the envelope. His offbeat style antagonizes the powers that be: the alpha-male president of the school board, and the pastor who’s more interested in single malt scotch than saving souls.

A showdown seems inevitable. Whether he can survive it — well, that’s something else.
