I have spent the last few weeks or so avoiding the Super Bowl commercials. It has been so hard. The commercials are the best part of the Super Bowl when your team isn’t in it, so If I want to enjoy this at all I needed to be sure it wasn’t ruined for me. It was a lot of work, and the crazy part is I will most likely miss most of them anyways. We are having just a few friends over today to watch the game and BBQ. I know we will get to talking and yammering on about stuff and completely miss the game. It happens every time. In the beginning I always yell to quiet down when the first four or five commercial come on. Come to think of it, I might even be a bit rude about it. I do supply everyone with broccoli casserole, so I guess I get a free pass on that. My enthusiasm only lasts for the first half though. After that I am all about the chips and dip. This morning I am fasting in preparation for today’s game. GO (fill in team name here)!!!!!!

The Holocaust didn’t really end in 1945. Not for everyone. Even after the war, survivors’ lives were influenced by their terrifying experiences. Some of them were never able to retell their stories–for others, it took decades.
In My Mother’s Ring: A Holocaust Historical Novel, Henryk Frankowski feels compelled to pen his memoir and finally share his poignant story from his hospital bed as he lay dying. His carefree childhood as a Jewish boy in Warsaw, Poland is never far from his mind as he recalls the tumultuous world he endured during the Holocaust. Henryk speaks uninhibitedly about the intense bond he has with his family, particularly his adoration for his nurturing mother. Ultimately, the Frankowskis’ lives are broken apart as World War II ignites and the Nazis storm across Europe, imprisoning and killing millions. As senseless restrictions are implemented, living conditions are compressed, circumstances turn dire, and callous disregard for human life runs rampant, Henryk must find the resilience to carry on. All the while, he dreams of a family reunion in Warsaw…
