Spirits in the Material World – a Salem Bookstore Cozy Witch Mystery is book one in the series The Magical Supernatural Paranormal Witches of Massachusetts. I live near Salem and visit it regularly – this book is chock-full of my own personal observations, visitations, and delight in roaming the streets and alleys of this amazing location.

One of my ancestors was Ann Foster – a grandmother who gave in to the accusations at the Salem Witch Trials in order to protect her innocent daughter and granddaughter. Ann was put into jail, age 75, and she soon succumbed to the atrocious conditions there.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on this series!

Aspen Allegations is the first novel in the award-winning Sutton Massachusetts Mystery series. It is followed by Birch Blackguards.

All novels in the Sutton Massachusetts Mystery series are written in a boots-on-the-ground, chapter-a-day format. On November 1st, author Lisa Shea went to the Sutton woods, hiked through them, and then that evening she wrote up the actual sights and sounds of that visit. That was Chapter One. The same process held true for each subsequent day and location. By November 30th the book was laid out. Each book captures a moment in time; as a whole the series shows the progression of events, news, and nature in Sutton over the years.

Lisa has lived in Sutton for nearly two decades and strives to craft stories which transport readers to her beautiful town. She offers a glimpse into Sutton’s combination of centuries-old history and a modern, sliced-through-by-a-busy-highway existence. Lisa visits the actual locations mentioned in the story, experiences the atmosphere, and then infuses those rich colors, trilling bird-songs, and pungent fragrances into her story in a richly descriptive manner reminiscent of Annie Dillard’s Pilgrim at Tinker Creek. Then toss in an ample seasoning of local culinary delights, and this is the world of the Sutton Massachusetts Mystery Series!

Kathy Taylor had weathered eight rough years as a black female police officer in Boston – but enough was enough. She turned in her badge, moved up north, and set up shop as a private investigator in historic Salem, Massachusetts. Now she’s surrounded by Wiccans and herbalists, by crystal shops and psychic pizza-deliverymen.

And her first client has just stepped in the door.

The Lucky Cat is the starting point in the Salem Massachusetts Mini Mystery series. These short stories were written and loaded one a day from October 1 through October 31, 2014. You can read them one-by-one if you wish, or, if you prefer, you can read them as a complete boxed set. All author’s proceeds from this series benefit battered women’s shelters.

Lisa has lived in scenic Massachusetts since 1986, with only two brief forays out of state. One of Lisa’s ancestors was Ann Foster, who died during the Salem Witch Trials. Ann Foster was a grandmother by that time and sacrificed herself to protect her daughter and granddaughter. Ann had been born in England, came over in 1635, and was 75 by the time of the trials. Salem reached its dark depths during those trials from 1692-1693 – but since then has healed, blossomed, and now shines. Salem features the amazing Peabody Essex Museum, a plethora of gorgeous historic architecture, and a beautiful coastline. It’s well worth a visit.

If you can’t go in person, enjoy a virtual trip through Lisa’s first-hand descriptions!
