Sunday night hubby finally finished putting my Christmas gift, an XCarve, together and we were ready to fire it up. Buzz buzz whirl whirl… splunk. Splunk is not a good noise. Buzz buzz is good, splunk is bad. A call to customer service determined that it was a faulty part and they would send it out ASAP. ASAP is today. I already have so many cute projects lined up. I really want to start playing with my new toy. Hubby and I both work from home right now, but I am certain that once the part arrives on my doorstep and will be giving him the Fix-it now looks. He could have his back tuned to me and fully concentrating on something else, but once I start giving him the Fix-it now look he can feel the burn on the back of his head. Try as he might he can’t ignore me. Right now I am just going to mention the part is due any moment now, just to give my Fix-It now look more power. Like super charging it.

Not all trees blossom, some wither in all seasons. Not all trees sit in forests, some are placed in solitude. And not all trees are innocent, some hold secrets that are kept buried as deep as their roots. It’s only until these secrets, much like their roots, are unearthed that their stability is truly tested.

Four years ago, Leo and Chloe Wells lost their older brother, Crash. He simply wasn’t there one morning. Four years later, he returns, just as sudden as he left. And while Leo and Chloe seek their own answers, it’s Crash that holds most of the questions. But a lot can change in four years: the details of a face, the loyalty of a heart, the curiosity of a mind. And even though not all changes are for the worse, the three siblings have suffered their fair share of them.
Together, Leo and Chloe find themselves alone, both trying to cope with an alcoholic father, and an absent mother.

Not all trees stand tall.
Some trees grow alongside those who sit in their shade.

A Chelsea Concerto
by Frances Faviell
4.5 Stars (45 Reviews)
Genre: Biographies & Memoirs

FREE for a limited time

‘Take off your coat,’ said the doctor. I took it off. ‘And your dress,’ he said. ‘It’s too dangerous – the folds may catch in the debris and bring the whole thing down.’ I took off the dress. ‘Fine,’ he said shortly. ‘It’ll have to be head first. We’ll hold your thighs. Go down and see if it’s possible to give an injection. Can you grip the torch with your teeth?’

Frances Faviell lived in Chelsea before and during the London Blitz, having became a Red Cross volunteer when World War II began. Chelsea was particularly heavily bombed and the author was often in the heart of the action, witnessing or involved in fascinating and horrific events through 1940 and 1941. Her memoir evokes an unforgettable cast, Londoners and refugees alike, caught up together in extraordinary and dangerous times – not forgetting the ‘Green Cat’, a Chinese statuette, standing on the author’s window sill as the home’s talismanic protector.

Frances Faviell’s memoir is powerful in its blend of humour, tenderness and horror, including the most haunting ending of any wartime memoir. A Chelsea Concerto is reprinted now for the first time since 1959, with a new introduction by Virginia Nicholson.

Casey Jones Mysteries Vol. 1-7 (Casey Jones Mystery Series)
by Katy Munger
4.5 Stars (289 Reviews)
Genre: Mystery | Suspense

FREE for a limited time

THESE ACTION-PACKED CASEY JONES ADVENTURES MAY BREAK YOUR FUNNYBONE, BUT THEY WON’T BREAK YOUR WALLET!

Casey Jones cannot be beat for rowdy, action-packed adventures with humor, romance, and hard-boiled mayhem aplenty. She’s hot, she’s hilarious, and she’s so headstrong her quasi-boss Bobby D. can only shake his massive head and do as the lady says. The hot and hilarious parts go hand-in-hand as the plus-size detective fantasizes her way through a small army of possible inamoratos, now and then anointing one or another, although always off the page and always accompanied by a wisecrack or three.
(“I feel like I’ve been in a train wreck,” says one.
“Of course you do,” replies his lovely date. “Why do you think they call me Casey Jones?”)

LEGWORK, Vol. 1
Author Munger masterfully blends nail-biting suspense with Casey’s hilarious wisecracking narration as she navigates an unsavory southern stew of crooked politicians, crooked cops, old grudges, ancient crimes, and everyone’s favorite, dysfunctional families.
OUT OF TIME, Vol. 2
The family of a death row inmate just isn’t buying the story that she killed her cop husband, and they’ve hired North Carolina’s mouthiest female sleuth to save her from lethal injection — in a month.
MONEY TO BURN, Vol. 3
When a favorite client gets killed on her watch, Casey vows to find the killer no matter what killers, arsonists, rapists, and spoiled rotten socialites get in her way. Then, to the cynical sleuth’s chagrin — everyone all around her starts falling in love… just before Casey herself is smitten.
BAD TO THE BONE, Vol. 4
BAD TO THE BONE is a rowdy, action-packed adventure with humor, romance, and hard-boiled mayhem aplenty. Its two greatest delights are its vivid antagonists, the big-hearted, tough PI and the petite, pernicious femme fatale, locked in a catfight that should have its own arena.
BETTER OFF DEAD, Vol. 5
Along with their significant others and the gardener, Casey and her oversize partner, Bobby, move in with a rape victim who’s receiving threatening phone calls. The victim knows exactly who attacked her, was tried for it, got away with it and who, she’s sure, is still getting away with it.
BAD MOON ON THE RISE, Vol. 6
Casey follows the trail of a missing basketball star to a prison town in the North Carolina mountains. In order to help out the very hot local sheriff investigate suspicious goings-on in the prison, Casey agrees to be locked up for a week inside a prison once again. Watch for the all-time best ever laugh-out-loud prison break!
FIRE AND RAIN, Vol. 7
Casey has her hands full avenging the death of one of her oldest friends — while trying to keep unruly strippers and bikers in line. What should have been a routine bodyguarding case has turned deadly and personal in more ways than one. Her friend is dead, one of the strippers she’s guarding is missing, and the handsome biker Casey met the night before sure seems to be in it up to his neck!

Always a rip-roaring romp, these page-turners will appeal to fans of all female sleuth mysteries — private eyes like Sue Grafton’s Kinsey Millhone, Sara Paretsky’s V.I. Warshawski, Laura Lippman’s Tess Monaghan, Marcia Muller’s Sharon McCone, and Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum, as well as their tough and witty male antecedents. If you ever flipped over Philip Marlowe, Spenser, or of course, the immortal Wolfe and his buddy Archie, you’ll fall in love with their direct descendant, Casey Jones, Private Eye.
