I hope everyone had a great Fourth of July yesterday. It was so quiet in our neighborhood. Usually the streets are filled with people lighting off fireworks and running around with sparklers. This year however fireworks were banned. The neighborhood was quiet and empty. There were a lot of parked cars, and the air was thick with the smell of BBQ, so people were still having parties. It was really strange to me and I am not sure how I feel about it. We were the last city to ban all fireworks, so everyone from the neighboring cities came to ours and it was absolute chaos. Picture Mad Max with no Thunderdome. I could hear the fireworks show from Sonoma State as well as a few illegal fireworks, but that’s about it. We had a wonderful day with our family and friends enjoying delicious ribs and homemade desserts. It was pretty quiet. Well, except for the part when one of the dogs (not mine) caught a chicken and ran off with it. SO MUCH SCREAMING. Thankfully the dog had a very gentle mouth, so when the chicken was retrieved she was unharmed. Her feeling were definitely hurt, but that’s about it. She might have trust issues after that night.
