You may recall me saying yesterday that my sweet pups Junebug and Rosey are not quite getting along. It’s so bad that the fights were to the death. What was really tough, was that they only happened once in a great while. 99% of the time they got along great, but that 1% was just too much. I was pretty embarrassed to tell you guys about it, but I also wanted to share my experience with you. A lot of the time you all give me great advice, and I love that. Hubby and I knew that we needed to have a professional come in and help us out. Yesterday’s visit with the behaviorist was VERY interesting. To start with the problem is….Me. DRAT! DRAT DRAT DRAT!!! I had to swallow my pride and listen to him. He tried to say it in nicer terms in the beginning, but after a while he just came right out and said it. I am a spaz. Ouch, but I kinda knew that already. I just didn’t realize how much that affected the pups. So he gave me some things to work on and I can already see the difference. On one hand I am very relieved. On the other hand, I am a big spaz. Oh man.

A book club favorite and IPPI Gold Medal Winner!
Anna and Zofia~two cousins~different as sun from shade.
One chooses love and patriotism~the other, deceit and treason.
And yet~love binds them even as their country hurtles toward the abyss.
Suddenly alone in the world, Anna falls prey to the schemes of Cousin Zofia even as she falls in love with Jan, a patriot ready to put his life on the line for Poland’s Constitution. Zofia refuses to submit to an arranged marriage and will go to any lengths to avoid it, no matter who it may hurt.
Based on a true diary, “Push Not the River contains all the sweep and romance of the classic romantic epics, such as Gone with the Wind and Doctor Zhivago, with a heroine who remains strong in the face of both personal and political tragedy… Anna Maria’s story is at once timeless and timely.” –India Edghill, author of Queenmaker and Delilah
A panoramic and epic novel in the grand romantic style, Push Not the River is the rich story of Poland in the late 1700s–a time of heartache and turmoil as the country’s once peaceful people are being torn apart by neighboring countries without and divided loyalties within. At the vulnerable age of seventeen, Lady Anna Maria loses both of her parents and must leave to go to live with relatives, thrusting her into a world of love and hate, loyalty and deceit. Even kind Aunt Stella, Anna’s guardian who personifies Poland’s courage and spirit, can’t protect Anna from the uncertain future of the country.
Anna turns to love and comfort in Jan, a brave patriot and architect of democracy, unaware that her beautiful and enigmatic cousin Zofia has already set her sights on the handsome young fighter. Thus Anna walks unwittingly into Zofia’s jealous wrath and darkly sinister intentions. Surviving several tragic events, some orchestrated by the crafty Zofia, a strengthened Anna learns to place herself in the way of destiny–for love and for country. Heeding the proud spirit of her father, Anna becomes a major player in the fight against the countries who come to partition her beloved Poland.
Push Not the River is based on the eighteenth-century diary of Anna Maria Berezowski, a Polish countess who lived through the rise and fall of the Third of May Constitution. Vivid, romantic, and thrillingly paced, it paints the emotional and unforgettable story of the metamorphosis of a nation–and of a valiant and resilient young woman.

~Christmas at Ruby’s is a novella that inspired an ongoing holiday series.~
Welcome to Ruby’s, where the Christmas spirit is alive and well.
Ruby’s Place (the classy family-friendly nightspot that once lit the night sky in the tiny fictional town of Sullivan, Missouri) is no more — closed for decades — but that doesn’t keep those who once shared an eggnog or plate of homemade marshmallows from remembering the tinsel-wrapped moments Ruby’s supplied come Christmas.
On a snowy holiday evening, feeling a bit down on her luck, a middle-aged Angela finds herself back at Ruby’s, staring through its foggy, grimy window to remember the Christmases she spent there with her favorite aunt as a child. Could the best Christmas present of all simply be spending one last moment with that special loved one, in a place where memories were born?
At Ruby’s, it seems, the “spirits” are not confined to just the dusty liquors behind the bar, and such a Christmas wish might not be made in vain.

“Plural identity is where respectful practice begins.” Who are you? Just the one body and mind? Does your story begin with your birth? Or how far back would you go?
The Oldest Word spans ten thousand years and more than a dozen settings. Human contradictions are reconciled time and again, with tragedy and humor feeding off each other. From the twin mirror mazes of history and psychology, amid ever-shifting social and natural landscapes, enduring patterns emerge.
The story opens with the discovery of a mysterious box from the distant past. Its makers are five orphaned friends who hope to help civilizational knowledge survive disruptive climate change centuries in the future: the ending of the Ice Age. The bar is continuously raised as the box travels through space and time to the present day. Readers are tacitly encouraged to partner with the author and fill in the blanks by considering their metaphorical boxes, lessons for the future from their past.
