This over 100 degree weather is kicking my tush. If I want to get anything done outside, I need to do it all before 10am. After that it gets just too warm to do anything. I said I wasn’t stressed about the trip, but I am stressed about the garden and my indoor plants. I am trying to get everything ready to be left alone for a month. I feel stupid weeding, since I know when I am gone they will all come back. It’s all going to go wild and out of control. To be honest I am curious to know what it will turn into. A jungle with wild animals. I can’t say that would be awful.

I stand at the front door and meticulously check my reflection in the glass. I must look perfect to meet Lou’s new boyfriend. I haven’t been invited but best friends don’t require invitations, right?
Scott’s arrival coincides with Donna’s, leaving me with no choice but to welcome her in, though I’ve made it clear she’s an unnecessary addition to today’s gathering. This meal is about introducing Scott to my mother and daughter – a fact Donna conveniently ignores.
As the introductions unfold, it’s evident that Donna has taken a liking to Scott. Mum’s quizzical expression in the kitchen speaks volumes –
Why is Donna here?
Her presence has always been a constant, demanding focus in my life. Now, however, it’s evolving into something deeper, with unsettling imitations and intrusive encroachments into every aspect of my world. The struggle to create distance only seems to intensify Donna’s attachment, pulling her dangerously closer.
And by the time I realise I’ve risked everything, it’s probably too late to stop her.

The Healing Year
by Christine Hunt

Genre: Medical | Historical Fiction | Romance

Never breaking eye contact, she stood with her hand over the grave, releasing her clump of dirt, slowly, scornfully, a little bit at a time, until it was gone. Only then did she turn and leave the cemetery without a word.
Meet 22 year-old Abigail Gerre, fiercely outspoken, gritty and resourceful. As the narrative opens, Abigail must preside over the burial of her stepmother, Margaret, with whom she had a fractious relationship. It’s January, 1867, and an outbreak of Scarlet Fever has caused Abigail to close the town’s school. On the fringe of the circle of mourners is an unexpected, yet familiar figure from her past, Dr. David Caldwell, scion of a wealthy New England family, at one time her protector and friend. The reason for his sudden reappearance is unclear, but one thing is certain. His presence will change many lives, including her own.
“The Healing Year” is the story of two families, once close, who are now torn apart by a secret that should have gone to Margaret’s grave. But, for David, treating those afflicted by the Scarlet Fever epidemic, will show him the life path he would choose, rather than that which his family would choose for him. For Abigail, the extended stay of the Yankee doctor will be a healing balm for her loved ones, her neighbors, and, ultimately, for herself.

It’s the end of summer in the picturesque village of Gull Bay and April Hart, who inherited the Bluewater Café from her grandmother, is looking for new ways to bring in business over the winter months. Whilst trade is brisk in the spring and summer, the winters in Gull Bay can be slow and quiet and she desperately needs to keep the café open to pay for all the renovations that she has made.
t seems however that there is someone who doesn’t want her to succeed.
When her co-worker and late grandmother’s friend, Hope, finds one of April’s Toffee Crunch cakes in the bin it seems innocuous enough. It’s a mystery, and tiresome, but April thinks there must be a perfectly logical explanation even though one doesn’t immediately come to mind. The mystery of the cake in the bin is only the start though. When an accident befalls her cook, and her café suffers an arson attack, it appears that April’s problems are getting more and more serious. Whilst she tries, with the help of her friends, to uncover who is behind the problems and why, events take a sinister turn and April finds her own life is on the line.
For whoever it is will stop at nothing to close the Bluewater café down.
