UGH! ICK! ERG! Nope nope nope. That is how I am feeling right now. Why so icky, you ask. Because my youngest baby basset is learning to drive. We are at the point when he is driving us to school in the morning. He needs to practice, and driving to school with me in the car guiding him is the best way for him to learn. Yesterday was his first time, and he did really well. He took turns a bit wide, and going through the roundabout while also signaling was a bit tricky for him, but he actually did really good. Not me. I was a nervous wreck and I could not hide it. I told him I would be horrible to have in the car and to try to ignore me. Poor baby. Poor me. Ugh.. today is day two. Wish us luck!
Riot: A 1960s Love Story

Two young lovers find each other just as the Vietnam War, the Antiwar Movement, and the Black Power Movement near their explosive peaks. Excitement, danger and heartache lie ahead. It’s September 1967. Steve Harris – white, idealistic, naïve — begins his freshman year. During that year, he will fight to end the war, fall in love, confront painful truths about his family, and be jailed and beaten by police. Through this crucible, he emerges with a transformed consciousness, of the world and of himself.
His awakening begins with a rousing antiwar speech delivered by Emma Gold, a Depression-era radical. When Emma introduces him to young Cat Crawford — inter-racial, brilliant and exotically beautiful – his bewitching is complete. The two students’ instant friendship blossoms before long into a passionate love affair. Their bond is tested, though, by the mounting demands of the times, and by their own deep-seated psychological issues. 1968 is marked by campus unrest, urban rebellion, assassinations, and political violence that leads the two into clashes with the Chicago Police and the National Guard. The story builds to a heartrending climax during the street battles surrounding the Democratic National Convention.
This is a complex, fast-paced journey on an emotional roller coaster, punctuated by flashes of self-discovery, and bursting with political and sexual passions.

A hilariously quirky clash between the worlds of arranged introductions and internet dating.
When her family gently suggest it might be time for Sunita to settle down, she thinks she’s more than capable of making her own choice of marriage partner, thank you!
Except, you don’t say no to your mum and aunties, even if you are a modern Indian girl! Maybe her family have a point too, since so many of them have been happily married themselves that way?
Sunita’s friend, Zoe, totally disagrees and suggests ‘auntie internet’ as a better alternative. After heated discussion, the two girls decide each method has its pros and cons, so they decide to test-run the two side-by-side: old-style tradition and new-style trend. After all, what have they got to lose, other than being single? Enter a range of ‘candidates’ for both girls, all vying to be Mr Right even though they’re clearly Mr Wrong – until the most surprising thing happens…
‘Auntie Gee’s Introduction Service’ is the precursor to ‘Me, You, and the In-Laws too,’ and is a humorous look at the arranged marriage process from the point of view of Sunita, a contemporary Indian girl, and her best friend, Zoe, an archetypally English one.

“My right eye, which was lost in the accident, was alive and well and by some miraculous means, it continued to transmit to my brain all that it saw!… My left eye saw, concurrently, the hospital room, and the brain, as it always does, fused the two images transmitted by the eyes, creating a sort of photomontage in which the images blended!!!”
A car crash leads to an unexpected voyage across dimensions of perception, a painting reveals more than just artistic vision, and a forgotten childhood game becomes the backdrop for reconciliation with the past. These are just a few of the surprises hidden among the pages of Amir Tomer’s debut short story collection.
The Last Waltz in Zurich offers its readers a rich tapestry of unusual and thought-provoking stories. Shifting between the surreal, the mundane, and the fantastical, this collection of stories never fails to surprise, challenge, and offer unique insights into the human psyche.
