Talk about a happy accident. I asked hubby to get me a roll of permeable weed cloth while he was at the hardware store for a project I wanted to do on Tuesday. I completely cleared out one of my flowerbeds that was taken over with crabgrass. No matter how much I tried to clear it out, it just kept coming back. So I decided I was going to start fresh and give the flowerbed a whole new look. Instead of two separate beds with flowering plants, I combined the two beds, put in a dry riverbed, and about 6 conifers of various shapes and sizes.  My plan was with the permeable weed cloth in place, this was going to be a very low maintenance bed. By late afternoon yesterday I had completed the project, except for the mulch to cover the permeable weed cloth. I wanted to see what the riverbed would look like wet, so I sprayed it down with the hose. SO PRETTY! But, it wasn’t draining. The little pool at the end of the riverbed was not draining. Oh no. Hubby came out to take a look. The weed cloth was not permeable at all. Worse yet, it looked FANTASTIC! As we watched the water pool up, I could hear the list growing in hubby’s mind. Water pump, clear hose, electrical box….. I guess I know what we are doing this weekend.

Dear Diary,

Leukemia’s been my life since I was eleven. Now, six years later, I want my life back. Only I’m not sure what that is. The test results came back today. 22,000. Which means I’m officially out of remission — again. I have three options:

1) Another round of chemo.
2) A super-new experimental drug.
3) Dump it all — forget the meds and treatments and enjoy the time I have left.

I think I know what I want. Then, in walks Damian, changing everything.

I mean, everything…

He’s got his own set of issues. It binds us together, you know? We understand what it’s like to lose what matters most in seconds. Still, the last thing I need is to have someone else to crush if I can’t fight hard enough. And the last thing he needs is someone else to grieve.

Never mind. I’m down to two options now.

Somehow I know that whichever one I choose, the result will be the same. With the sand in my hourglass seeping to the bottom, I hope there’s enough left to show Damian that life’s worth living.

Worth fighting for. Worth dying for.

Love Always,
Kate

The Squeaky Clean Skeleton (The Haunted Housekeeping Series Book 1)
by R. A. Muth

Hi! I’m Tori Madison, and I hate scrubbing toilets, which is unfortunate because my BFF Hazel and I own Bubbles and Troubles, Beach Plum Bay’s premier cleaning service.

When Mrs. Livingston asked us to sort through the contents of her attic, however, we thought our toilet-scrubbing days were over. That is… until we found her corpse.

As if finding our client’s body stuffed in a steamer trunk wasn’t enough of an upset, someone needed to save her cat from being sent to a local high-kill animal shelter. That person, as it turned out, was me. I had no sooner set up the critter’s litter box in my guest bathroom when he revealed another side. A six-foot-four, hunky, Irish side that only I can see.

Before I could come to grips with my new feline friend’s secret, Mrs. Livingston’s relatives, eager to claim their inheritance, asked Hazel and me to solve the murder. And the amount of the reward was many times over what their aunt owed for the job she hired us to do. Soon we had a plan that included Rune, my new housepet-turned-houseguest.

The more I got to know Rune, the more I wanted to confide in Hazel. But was I risking our lives by keeping my cat’s secret as we went through with our crazy plan to catch a killer? Unfortunately, I didn’t have a choice.
