Can someone please tell me why we were so obsessed and fearful of quicksand when we were growing up? I can’t recall there ever being an issue with it. Yet boy oh boy were were so afraid of it. There was this one teacher, when I was taking a residential appraisal course, that told us the story of a quicksand pit under a home in San Rafael. You could tell who the Generation X people were by their reaction. First there was fear, then you could see them trying to remember what they learned about how to get out of it. You know we all practiced it in our heads a thousand times. The rest of the class was just confused about why it was such a big deal to the Gen X people. Other than that one time, quicksand hasn’t been an issue. Kinda pissed that I worried so much about it. I am starting to wonder if poltergeists aren’t an issue either.
