It’s absolute chaos in the garden. Yesterday, in the early evening, I went outside to put the bins on the curb for trash pick-up, and there it was. The crow. He was trying to get at the little nest that is in the eaves of the house. That jerk had already gotten to the other nest above my baby basset’s window. When that happened I put cardboard around the remaining nest to give it a little extra protection. Mamma bird could still get in, but I was hoping it would deter the crow. Well, last night the crow was back and fighting his way to the nest. I ran him off of course, but I was so worried about the babies that I couldn’t stop checking on it. At one point I had to go to the backyard, and that is where I found a little bird just sitting on the ground. It looked young, so maybe it was resting from a first flight situation. He walked around a bit and looked normal, but he wasn’t flying up to the trees where he would be safer. So then I had two birds to stress about. Back and forth I went from the front yard to the back, keeping an eye on both critters. Eventually the little one in the back did fly away, and the crows seemed to have move on from the nest out front. Too much stress. I’m staying inside today.

Some secrets refuse to stay buried…
Ruth didn’t hesitate. She aimed and fired in the direction of the flash, squeezing off three rapid shots. The muzzle of her own weapon lit up the barn in staccato bursts, revealing fleeting glimpses of the whimsical wonderland turned battlefield. Shadows danced across the faces of smiling clowns and cartoon characters, their frozen grins taking on a sinister quality in the flashes of light.
