It’s kinda quiet in the hen house with Jackie sitting in the nest box all day. Summer is always reestablishing her position as number two in the flock when Jackie is around, but she seems to be slacking on that right now. It’s almost like the rest of the girls just lay low and hang out quietly waiting for Jackie to come back out. I think Jethro, my pup, is missing her as well. There hasn’t been dirt in the pup’s bowl for the last few days. Last year I just couldn’t dunk her little feet in cold water to end her broodiness, but this year I seem to be a bit more callus, or maybe it’s selfishness. We all want our little Jackie back out.

Kieran, the matron of honor, stands watching her best friend march toward a terrible decision–made partly because her husband-to-be’s name is Bill Bingley. This small fact means that her name will thereafter be Jane Bingley, just like a character from her favorite novel, Pride and Prejudice–not exactly a great reason to include on the list of why you want to marry someone. As “Here Comes the Bride” rings out, Kieran’s conscience wars with her to stop the ceremony and tell everyone what happened last night before it’s too late.
Kieran and Jane entered each other’s lives eight years before the wedding, meeting at a small college in Ohio. They avoided each other their freshman and sophomore years because Kieran was an athlete and Jane was their college president’s daughter and a cheerleader. Yet, they bonded during a particularly dreadful class their junior year thanks to buckets of wine.

Leon Garber has his reasons for ridding the world of abusive people. Justifiable homicide’s one way to look at it. Of course, vigilante justice is a risky business, but someone needs to take out the trash.
Opportunity comes knocking from Like-Minded Individuals, Inc., a global company fulfilling the needs of people like Leon. LMI’s clientele are provided with new identities, security, and even lists of potential “projects.” But let’s not call it “serial killing.” Such a nasty business. For uncouth serial killers, it’s a good deal. For Leon, it’s a dream come true.
But LMI’s put a target on Leon’s back. He has no idea why. LMI, the police, sanctioned hit-men, and a vicious psychopath are after him. Heads are chopped, dropped and swapped as Leon fights for his life and freedom. But nothing will keep Leon from finishing his current project. Nothing. Not even the chance to fall in love.
Sometimes a killer business idea is just that. Killer.
