The ladies are certainly upset with me. I let them out of the coop for about 30 minutes while I added fresh sand and bedding and tidied up their home. After I was finished though, it was right back in the run. I have never had them fight me so much to get back in. I almost had to call in reinforcements, which would have been quite a blow to my ego. It was just too dangerous to leave them out though. The hawks were flying very low just over a neighbors house and they looked hungry. I have managed to keep those ladies from getting eaten for a few years now and I intend to keep it that way. When I first got them I had it in my head that it was common for chickens to get eaten by predators, it happens all the time, and to be prepared for the inevitable. But now that I have been successful for all these years, I have grown too attached and determined. It certainly is hard when everyone in the world wants to eat you.
