Sitting in a tiny restaurant/bar last night listening to my friend’s band play, while all the kids played on the front porch of the old Victorian on a warm May evening, was a perfect way to end the weekend. One of my friends played the massive bass while the other was killing it on the trumpet. Actually I should say he was killing in on several different kinds of trumpets, because every time I blinked he brought out a different kind of horn. I had heard my friends play a little bit before, but that was in a school setting and I had never heard them really let it go the way they did. You could tell they were in their element. Laughing, playing, and having a great time. It was like I was seeing their true selves at their happiest. It was beautiful. Does it make me old though that I was thrilled I was home just after dark?
