I used to love the choose your own adventure books as a child, but I always worried about the fact that I always chose wrong and died. If I can’t choose right in a book how on earth am I gonna make it through real life with all my limbs intact? You lose a bit a faith in yourself when you always die. My youngest basset wants to be an explorer when he grows up. I think it would be best for me to test him out on these books and see if he can make it through alive. I wonder if it would be a good indication of whether or not he should be an explorer or get a desk job.

“I have a television so I know what a family is supposed to look like but mine is nothing like that. To begin with, both my parents are dead. Not the kind of dead where you bury them in the ground, say some nice words, cry a lot and then never see them again. Nope, when they died they refused to ‘go into the light’ or whatever it is you’re supposed to do when you die. Instead, they came back home. As ghosts. Have you ever been sent to your room by a parent who has no corporeal form? I have and it sucks… ” Xandra Illuminata Smith has lived for the last three years with ghosts as parents but her life gets even stranger after her seventeenth birthday when she finds out that her mother is actually a Witch in hiding and her biological father, whom she knew nothing about, is a Fairy and King of the Fae realm. Xandra is the first Witch Fairy to be born in thousands of years for very good reason. No one should be able to control that much magic and Xandra was never meant to be born at all but her mother has managed to keep her hidden away until now. The Witches want her dead and the Fairies want her blood, for only her blood will reopen the gateway to the Fae realm and allow them back into this realm to take revenge on humans and Witches alike for having banished them hundreds of years ago. Xandra has very little time to learn how to use her powerful Witch and Fairy magic that has been bound since her birth while running from the Fairies who managed to jump realms and want to take her blood to set the others free. She needs someone to teach her and her parents enlist the help of one powerful Fairy who claims to want to keep the realms closed to each other. He will help keep her safe and alive as she learns, at least that’s what he says…

Genre: Horror

It is Halloween, a day that used to be your favourite of the year. As a child, you counted down the days to Halloween, thrilled at the prospect of venturing out into the night in a monster’s clothing and returning with a sack stuffed full with candy. As you grew through adolescence, your tastes gradually changed. You still lived in anticipation of Halloween, but you no longer cared much for its typical offerings. The costumes weren’t real. The candy was too sweet. What you wanted was adventure, panic, black magic. You wanted to find yourself on a dark hilltop, shaking with fear as impossible shadows crept up the slope toward you. You wanted to see the dead sit up in their graves. You wanted to stumble through the fog trying to escape the clutches of a madman. You wanted to survive a nightmare… Death by Halloween is a ‘choose-your-own-adventure’ style interactive book for adults and mature teens. It features: • Masterfully executed hyperlink navigation • Over 100 choices • Over 50 endings • A gender-neutral protagonist • Ghosts • Ghouls • Murderers • Self-loathing • Cannibals • Demons • Mutilation • Scarecrows • Specters • Zombies • Pie • And much more! Please have a look at the sample to get a better idea of whether or not this book is right for you. Because this is an interactive book, the sample chapters will be out of order and not interactive. They will, nevertheless, give you a pretty good idea of what to expect. PLEASE NOTE: As mentioned above, this book has some fairly graphic scenes of violence and is intended for a somewhat mature audience.
