I woke up this morning and there was no power in the house. It’s always strange when the power goes out. The house is so quiet you almost feel intrusive when you make a noise. After an hour or so the power came back on and the house had the proper sounding hum that it usually does. I am grateful that a short power outage just means a slight inconvenience. I can go into camping mode pretty easily, including making my coffee with a percolator. It just occurred to me that this is what all the preppers are prepping for. I have made it as far as “Coffee making without electricity skills”. It’s an important first step. I guess you could say I am a nursery school level prepper.

Yesterday Damien Attica tossed a crooked Wall Street executive out of a fifty-second-story window. Today he’s on his hypnotherapist’s couch, reliving his past life as a notorious outlaw in nineteenth-century New Mexico. A local farmer’s daughter, Josephina Llewelyn, was violated, and Damien is in the territory to make sure the men responsible meet his singular brand of justice. Their boss, Isaac Greeley, doesn’t like that one bit and has raised a posse to hunt down Damien.
Bad idea.
After a can of beans and a good book, Damien dreams. They are of his first life, centuries earlier in ancient Greece. He’s a frightened, anxious boy learning the ways of the prophet Orpheus, a man who sang to the birds and animals.
Damien also has a song to sing. It’s an anthem of agony for those who do the innocent harm. He is the Orphic Assassin reborn.

Contending with Paul: The Hidden Story Behind the Writing of Matthew, Mark, and Luke
by William Joseph Cobble
(18 Reviews)
Genre: Biographies & Memoirs | Religion & Spirituality
FREE for a limited time
Contending with Paul: The Hidden Story Behind the Writing of Matthew, Mark and Luke, is not a book that easily fits into existing genres. Within its pages one will find history, theology, biography, and literary criticism. This book focuses primarily on the first two generations of the Christian movement. The first generation includes the Apostles, Jesus’ family members, and Paul. It is this generation who would first debate how the message of Jesus should be presented to the Gentile world (non-Jews) and what would be expected of those Gentiles who desired to follow Jesus. It is the second generation of believers who began to write in a new literary genre that Christians call “gospels.” The Gospel of Matthew, the Gospel of Mark, and the Gospel of Luke, are the earliest three to have survived, and it is through these writings that the debates of the first generation get carried forward by the second. Though all three gospels were written after the death of Paul, it is asserted by the author that each gospel writer contended with his continuing influence in some way, though each from their own distinctive vantage point.
