Good Sunday morning to you all. I can’t write this morning, because I just can’t concentrate. I heard a crazy noise in my kitchen, and my first thought was ghosts. Not sure why I always have to go to ghosts, but once again I got a little freaked out. I soon discover it is my kitty trying to get into cabinet under the sink. He has never wanted to go there before, but now he is obsessed with getting in. Now just to note, because I have small kids and snoopy pets, the only thing under the sink is dry foods, no chemicals. Today though the kitty is craving Famous Amos cookies and I just can’t stop him. After 10 years, now he wants cookies. Clatter Clatter Bang bang!!

A Girl Called Badger (Valley of the Sleeping Birds)
Stephen Colegrove
4.7 Out of 5 Stars (7 Reviews)
Genre: Science Fiction

FREE for a limited time

When strange seizures threaten the life of the girl he loves, a young man leaves a protective enclave of ancient machinery and searches the ruins of civilization for a cure.

Three centuries after a global pandemic and nuclear war, the mountains and plains of Colorado flourish with wildlife. The survivors avoid the blasted zones of “ghost-sickness,” hunt mule deer in the pine forests, and cultivate new strains of crops. Scattered tribes fight short, brutal wars and trade slaves for rifles made by a rising power in the south.

High in the Rockies a collective thrives in the still-functioning remains of a research facility. With each passing generation the true nature of the founding ancestors has become fantastical myth to most villagers, who spend their time hunting outside the valley or farming corn and hemp. Carefully selected priests serve as caretakers of the ancient machinery, doctors, and librarians of the past.

One of the hunters, a tough and resourceful teenage girl nicknamed Badger, falls unconscious with momentary, uncontrollable shaking. Wilson, a bookish apprentice priest, searches the library and the old databases for a cause to the mysterious illness. Together, he and Badger crawl through abandoned tunnels deep within the mountain. What they discover about the past forces them to choose between love for each other and the strict rules of the village.

Genre: Biographies & Memoirs

FREE for a limited time

An Actor Walks into China tells of a thrilling transfer from Little Rock, Arkansas (think Wal-Mart, think Bill Clinton), to Beijing China, (think spicy food, think Shakespeare – or Sha Shi Bi Ya – as they say it there). From his first visit to Beijing where he played Kent in King Lear, to his experience directing an all female Julius Caesar with Chinese undergraduates – it seems so obvious doesn’t it, surely just a question of who got there first? To producing a season of Chinese theater in London, British actor Colin McPhillamy takes us on a ride of cultural confusion and delight. He loved China and the people he met. He loved the food, in personal encounters he met with warmth and hospitality. It was only in business environment that the shouting started.
