I can feel it. It’s coming and I don’t like it. I will fight it until my last..hmm..nothing too serious, maybe my last sugar cookie. I can live without sugar cookies. Chocolate chip cookies are a completely different story. I love chocolate cookies and I will push a handsome man out of the way to get one. But that’s not what I was starting to talk about. It’s CHANGE. I hate change, and I know it’s banging on my door. Maybe if I hide and bake chocolate chip cookies I can avoid it for another day or two.

Genre: United States | History

FREE for a limited time

Acute food shortages and lawlessness plague communist-occupied Seoul at the start of the Korean War in 1950. Jimin, a sixteen-year-old boy, aches to return to the safety of his old home on Ockdo (Jade Island), a remote island he’d left five years earlier. But only his father, who is absent from home, knows the way.

His adversary, a man who’s been plotting to wipe out Jimin’s family and steal their island, brings a tragedy and tries to eliminate him, forcing him to traverse the war-torn country on foot with his seven-year-old sister to find his father. But the war sweeps across the country multiple times and hinders them from meeting up with their father.

Back in Seoul, with Chinese troops (who invade the country to prop up the communists) bearing down on them, Jimin is forced to join the army, leaving his sister alone, hungry, and homeless in the cold, bomb-devastated city.

With action and suspense, Tendrils of Life is a rich and intriguing work of historical and literary fiction, interwoven with gripping character-oriented narratives and full of visual detail. It’s a story of love and hope, greed and revenge, and the quest for survival in the turmoil of war, a depiction of resilience of the human spirit. A historical thriller and historical romance fiction in 150,000 words.

Talon and the Dragons of Crinnelia (The Prophecy of the Dragons, Book 1)
Diana Metz
4.7 Stars (27 Reviews)
Genre: Fantasy | Teens

FREE for a limited time

“I can always tell when the Magic is present in a human: a glowing about the head, rather like the glow of the embers in your fire. I ate someone with Magic once, and had gas for months.” The dragon chuckled, at least Talon hoped that was a chuckle.

Dragons, Wizards, and magical rings. This was not at all what Talon had in mind when he accepted an errand from a strange old man. Now an evil Wizard is after him, he’s living in a cave, and a Dragon Queen has mysterious plans for his future. Can Talon accept his fate and become a powerful Wizard? Would Dragons ever again think of humans as anything more than an easy meal?

Talon is a fantasy adventure story for readers of all ages. It was written for a younger audience, but it is enjoyable for adults as well. This is a fun romp through a world of magic and dragons who aren’t flying flamethrowers but intelligent and humorous creatures.

The Crazy Genius

Misunderstood genius has been a theme for generations and the works of the electrifying minds of the past centuries remain mysterious phenomena.

“Anyone who is not shocked by quantum theory has not understood it,” said Niels Bohr, famous Danish physicist and self-described dilettante who developed the model of the atom.

Ancient Greek philosophers would not be surprised, especially Democritus, who theorized that everything is composed of atoms that were physically, but not geometrically, indivisible. Perhaps even he would have been shocked to learn that the atom can be split and with such spectacular results.

Genius is an almost mystical and mythical chimera that cannot be defined and the Classical Greeks did not even have a word for it. What might Aristotle think of the quest to understand genius?

“It is the mark of an educated man to entertain a thought without accepting it,” Aristotle observed. Least anyone think Aristotle was too deep of a thinker for us to understand, he also discovered another truth, and said all paid jobs absorb and degrade the mind.

It doesn’t take a genius to figure that out.
