My neighbor that shares a back fence caught me chit chatting with my chickens. When I saw him I froze like a deer in the headlights. I was on my deck telling my chickies below how cute and sweet they are and made little clucky noises at them, all while wearing a blue robe with my hair still resembling the troll doll I told you about a few days ago. The neighbor is far enough away that I can’t clearly make out his face, and I’m not 100% sure he even heard me, but I was 100% sure I was embarrassed as all heck. The only thing I could do is duck quickly out of site and run back in the house. Yup… that looked natural.

In Book One of her bestselling mystery series, author Nancy Tesler welcomes you to Carrie Carlin’s world.
Two things the suburban mom and biofeedback stress reduction therapist knows:
1) your body believes everything you tell it, and 2) she is telling hers that her life isn’t worth living…
…because on Christmas Eve, the day after her fortieth birthday, her husband of eighteen years takes off with his young, drop-dead gorgeous marketing director.
Carrie can’t eat. She hardly sleeps. When she does, her dreams are nightmares fraught with deadly specters. Her waking fantasies are equally lethal. When the bimbo is found conked over the head and tossed in the family’s half-filled pool on the very afternoon Carrie has been spying on her, Carrie’s fight-or-flight response goes into orbit as she finds herself topping Detective Ted Brodsky’s suspect list.
He shows up at her office asking questions…about her impending divorce… about her emotional state…about her financial situation. All of Carrie’s biofeedback training deserts her. Her personal mantra–“I’m ca-a-lm, I’m ca-alm, this is not a life-threatening situation,” doesn’t work. Diaphragmatic breathing doesn’t work, self-hypnosis doesn’t work, positive affirmations, self-talk, envisioning the handsome detective on a boat sailing out of her life forever doesn’t work.
The scandal sheets go wild, Carrie’s clients start canceling appointments, her ten-year-old son is forced to fight for her honor at school, her preteen daughter vows never to marry, and the family dog develops bladder problems. Something has to be done and it seems Carrie is going to have to do it. Now the single mom turned sleuth is on the run, finding out shocking secrets about her ex, her friends, and even her clients–as a killer targets her….

One mistake can ruin a life. One mistake can transform it.
A government forestry camp set deep in the mountainous forests of the Pacific Northwest might not seem the likely place to find redemption, but in 1935, Park Hardesty hopes for just that.
Blaming himself for the fiery accident that caused his brother’s disfigurement and the death of the bootlegging woman he loved, planting trees, building bridges and mentoring tough, homesick New Jersey boys brings him both penitence and the renewal of his own self-worth. When he wins the love of Kate Alford, a local naturalist who envisions joining the Forest Service, which allows only men, he also captures the ire of a camp officer who refuses to let her go. Just when he is ready to seek his brother’s forgiveness, he is falsely accused of rape. Every aspect of his life he has tried to rebuild is put in jeopardy. In the end, the only way he can defend himself is to tell the truth about his brother, but he risks being kicked out of the camp. Worse, he could lose Kate’s love forever.
