So for three solid weeks now I have cut out sugar and alcohol (okay, all but two beers). Which can only mean there have been no birthday parties in all that time. After three weeks you would think that I feel great, invigorated, and I am ready to live an adult life without Hostess and Betty Crocker. I should have seen the light! For those of you who want me to say this is exactly what happened… OH HOW GLORIOUS I FEEL! Now for the truth…MEH! Seriously… just meh. I will give it until Super Bowl Sunday, but if I don’t feel glorious by then I am going to show a plate of nachos a whole lotta attention. I might buy it flowers first and call it sweet names.

Genre: Mystery | Humor & Satire

FREE for a limited time

When a frozen corpse is discovered in a fishing shack on a nearby lake, most residents of Parson’s Cove assume the man succumbed to the blistery cold. However, after the body thaws, the coroner discovers that the man, one Victor Fleming, was actually beaten to death. An eye witness saw Jakie Flanders leaving the shack the night of the murder and was overheard threatening Fleming in town earlier. Add this to the fact that Victor was Flori Flander’s cousin and was demanding money from her and Jakie’s motives for murder were piling up. Only Flori’s best buddy and local amateur sleuth Mabel Wickles seems to have any faith that Jakie might be innocent. Mabel enlists the aid of her young computer friend, Nathan Horne, and the Sheriff, Reg Smee, in her attempt to clear Jakie and bring her friend Flori some relief. Soon Mabel discovers a startling fact. The frozen body, whom everyone assumes is Victor Fleming – isn’t. Did Jakie kill the wrong man? Or is there another reason for this corpse’s frozen identity? Mabel will encounter many more clues before she puts this mystery on ice.

The Voice of Willie Morgan
by Tom Winton
4.8 Stars (4 Reviews)
Genre: Literary Fiction | Short Stories

FREE for a limited time

You would think Robert Morgan has it made. If you’re into success and wealth, toys and excess, he’d be your hero. Not yet forty, he’s by far the youngest CEO in Amalgamated Petroleum’s long illustrious history. He’s also Big Oil’s go-to-guy. He has a penthouse in Manhattan, a sprawling estate in Westport (complete with helipad), and a six-bedroom summer “cottage” in Cape Elizabeth, Maine. Not too shabby for a kid who grew up in a hard-knocks section of Queens, New York.

But lately something has been eating at Robert–something even his wife Paige doesn’t know about–something called truth. For quite some time he’s been publicly denying the ill effects his industry has had on the planet and it’s finally getting to him. But that’s not all that’s weighing on him. He’s also being haunted by the gravelly voice of his rough-around-the-edges, long-dead father. The old man is continually lambasting him for his lies, and it’s driving Robert to the brink of madness.
