This year for Halloween I am going to go as a candy thief. So basically I am going to be dressed as myself. It’s an easy costume. I will have on elastic waist pants with tons of pockets. I will have running shoes on for the quick getaway. Unfortunately the getaway’s have been getting harder and harder the older my kids get. They are fast little buggers. Thankfully I am still sneakier than my boys and can still get a few pieces of candy from them before they catch on. I know I can buy the candy, but there is something pretty satisfying about stealing it from your kids. It almost makes it fat and sugar free since you have to work so hard for it.

So when an antiabortion demonstration ends with a bomb blast that kills a pretty young girl and an old woman, Flannery takes it personally. Something smells rotten — from the Gold Coast to the South Side. And when the killer goes after Flannery’s lady love, Flannery doesn’t just get mad — he gets as mean as a junkyard dog — on the scent of the dirty politics mixed with passion and revenge, a very deadly combination…
