I woke up this morning feeling lighter. I walked to the kitchen and was greeted by a bunch of bats making their way through the house. I really do a good job decorating the house for Halloween. Not one fell from the ceiling. Just for that I should get an A+. Yesterday I was sitting on the couch again, watching the news, and checking my phone every ten seconds to see where the fire was at now, and who needed to be evacuated. Then it hit me. I had to stop watching this. For safety sake I kept the phone on me with the alerts telling me of any evacuations, but it was time to live life again. I started by going outside. The smoke is horrible, but witches need to be put up, along with their black cats and haunted houses. Pumpkins were rearranged yet again. My count is now at 9 pumpkins, so I will need to sneak another on in soon. My baby bassets were getting excited and asking me if I am going to put out this or that decoration. Yup! Let’s get to work.

The Mages of Bennamore (Brightmoon Book 3)
by Pauline M. Ross
4.5 Stars (50 Reviews)
Genre: Fantasy | Teen & Young Adult

FREE for a limited time

A stand-alone epic fantasy set in the Brightmoon world…

Fen is used to hiding away in her coastal town, keeping her past and her magic far from prying eyes. But the aftermath of the brief war with Bennamore pits her against a different kind of magic, and throws her quiet life into turmoil, threatening to expose all her secrets.
Mal’s job as guard to the mages of Bennamore has always been a bit dull, but that was before they were sent to bring magic to the resentful coastal folk. Before he knows it, he finds himself in the middle of riots, disappearances and thievery. And then there’s the infuriatingly snooty Fen, a woman he’d love to tame.
The two will have to overcome their mutual dislike and join forces to untangle the dragon’s nest of deceit around them, or else their countries will be plunged back into disastrous war.

Forgotten Reflections: A War Story
by Young-Im Lee
4.3 Stars (24 Reviews)
Genre: World Literature | Thrillers

FREE for a limited time

For readers of “All the Light We Cannot See” and “Pachinko” comes a mystical tale of a grandmother’s secret life during the Korean War. In the current international climate where North Korea takes center stage, “Forgotten Reflections” weaves an inspirational tale of family, lost memories, folklore and an unforgotten history, spanning three generations as South Korea rises from the ashes.

Dare to dream in the midst of war.

1945. Rice fields seem endless in a quaint farming village of South Korea, yet Iseul and the villagers have been on the verge of starvation for as long as they can remember. Their Japanese colonizers have taken every last grain with them as they are finally ousted from the Peninsula. In the newly independent Korea, Iseul and Jung-Soo dream of what their future might bring. Yet, war is on the horizon and Iseul has fallen for an alleged North Korean communist spy.

Men are conscripted and rice is taken to feed the growing army as the Korean Peninsula is thrust into an international war that would determine if the strategic region will fall into the communist or democratic realm. With nothing but the news of death and hunger awaiting the village of women, children, and the aged, Iseul musters up whatever hope she has left to bring the village together to make paper. Soon, the village once known for its rice, becomes famous for its paper, becoming a beacon of hope for the battle-worn soldiers awaiting letters from their loved ones.

The Sting of the Wasp: A fast-paced mystery that brings the past to life in modern Athens (A Panos Akritas Mystery)
by Yianni Xiros
Genre: Mystery

FREE for a limited time

Athens is without doubt an ancient wonder, but the twenty-first century is not treating it well, as Panos Akritas can testify…

In a nation besieged by economic collapse, corruption and uncertainty, even at the highest levels of society, Panos is among the few good cops left to manage the fallout. And when a serial killer, apparently fixed on murdering elderly men, takes to the streets, it seems that Panos and his police force colleagues have yet another type of disaster to deal with.

Panos, however, soon realises that this particular crime spree is far from straightforward, and the ensuing investigation shows him the dark underbelly of Greek society, revealing a hidden underworld with its roots buried deep in the history of modern Greece.

As its crimes come ever closer to Panos Akritas himself, and touch upon those he loves, it seems that he must fight or be overwhelmed — but this time, has he come up against an enemy too powerful to beat?

With a thrilling story, meticulous attention to detail and a cast of memorable characters, The Sting of the Wasp is a fast-paced, compelling novel that will appeal to lovers of crime fiction, Grecophiles and modern history fans alike.

Yianni Xiros was born in Athens, Greece, taught literature at a Canadian university and now spends time in Canada, the UK and Greece.
