UUUUGGGHHH!!! I gotta go to Costco today. That’s not the bad part. I enjoy a good Costco trip exploring every single aisle by myself. Fun fun. No, the bad part is coffee is on the list. I always buy the 3 pound bag of beans, and have to grind them after I pay. After I check-out the last thing I want to do is spend an additional 5 minutes in the store. I want to pay and get out as fast as I can. Nope. I have to stop off at the grinder and spend an additional 5 minutes grinding beans. To make matters worse, the grinders are too small for the large bag of beans, so you have to pour the beans in the top a certain way, and position the bag underneath is a very awkward unsteady way in order for it to work. You need to know the trick or you will have a huge mess on your hands. If that’s not enough to be a bother, if I see someone struggling with the machine, I feel the need to show them how to do it. BUT… did they ask me for help? Maybe they already know how and they just need a second. Maybe they don’t want to talk to me. Am I bothering them? UGH! My inner dialog drives me nuts at the coffee grinders. I wonder if instant coffee has gotten any better??

The truth will set you free… unless you’re Jes Delaney.

Eleven years ago, Jes appeared barefoot in the headlights of an old Ford. A truck driven by a man who not only saved her life, but also adopted her. At fifteen, she can’t remember anything before that night.

Her mom’s hometown seems like a safe place to hide. They’re like a normal family and Jes finally has friends. She even falls for a guy who likes her though he’s definitely off-limits. But it’s all an illusion. The more Jes looks around, the more she thinks something is wrong with her.

No one else dreams of spaceships or worries what might happen if people find out the truth. No one has to lie about who they really are.

When Jes befriends a strange new student, she discovers he’s searching for a missing girl who might be her. Could she be this mystery girl, and what will it mean for the family determined to protect her?

What makes this book different? It’s teen drama mixed with aliens and powers, soft sci-fi that’s heavy on dialogue. Leftover Girl has a complex mystery plot, a cliffhanger ending, and should be read as part of a series.

Crazy Street
by Archie McFee
3.9 Stars (76 Reviews)
Genre: Humor & Satire | Family Life

FREE for a limited time

Growing up in the old family home in New Zealand was an amazing adventure, although Archie didn’t realise it at the time. This particular suburb was on the country’s least desirable list where a high level of crime was reported daily to which he, and a few mates, contributed depending on the weather and other circumstances. Subsequently the inhabitants were under constant harassment from young men on pushbikes sporting pristine white shirts and large black Bibles determined to alleviate their suffering – it didn’t help, them or the residents.
The front yard of the house looked like a train wreck with uncut lawn and dilapidated vehicles. The backyard was worse with a plethora of unfinished projects everywhere, more cars in various states of repair, numerous motorcycles, a speedboat and a small beer garden with a mountain of beer bottles signalling its presence.
Life was good then.

EXCERPT
Stares at the Moon sat, huddled in his blankets, glaring at the small fire that was fighting to warm his makeshift shelter. The smoke wasn’t dissipating through the hole at the top like it should and the interior was filling up with smoke. He had no buffalo robes to make a proper teepee and had been forced to make a place to get in out of the storm, from whatever pieces of wood and brush he could find.
He was seized with rage. His chattering teeth could hardly get out the words, “The white man must die. I will see him skinned alive – a little at a time – then I will bury him up to his neck near an ant hill, and cover his head with honey.”
The thought of the punishment he would inflict on the white man calmed him somewhat and he pulled back the covering of the doorway to let out some of the smoke, then added more wood to the fire and bundled up in his blankets, again, the bruises on his body making it difficult for him to get comfortable.
He eased his body down close to the fire to get as much warmth as he could, and tried to sleep. But sleep was not to be had. He was cold, but that was not what was keeping him awake. Every time he closed his eyes, he saw Crying Dove in his mind – and she was laughing at him.
